Jesus Knows.
Are you feeling weary today? If you're not sure, let me give you the meaning - "feeling or showing extreme tiredness, especially as a result of excessive exertion." Yep, that's me and I suspect you can relate. Sometimes it feels like just breathing can make you weary! There are many things in life that drain our energy. It can be physical work, mental work, our emotions, other people, situations and even the family dog! Clearly, the best thing we can do when weary is rest. Our culture seems to be losing, if not already lost, the value of rest. Taking time out seems to be associated with being unproductive, a waste of time or dare I say it? Lazy!
Let's not forget Jesus took rest too, it's important. This weariness is causing many problems in our world, not the least being stress which leads to health problems and a lot of grumpy people. God's ways are not our ways so let's do life God's way. If the world chooses stress and weariness, let's choose to rest in and with the Lord. That'll make us strong and people will want what we have. However, there is something we must not allow any weariness to disrupt - doing good.
"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)
So rest when tired, but never give up on faithfully doing good. There are so many things that are good for us to do. We can’t do them all at once though so sit with God and ask Him to show you what to focus on right now.
What about our physical health; eating well, exercising and getting enough sleep? From these good things, we will have the energy to serve the Lord, loving those in our lives and those we meet each day. Just like planting a seed, watering it, caring for it and allowing it to grow, we will reap the reward when the time is right. Prioritise rest, keep doing good and God bless you.
Closing Thought
If your garden shears get stiff and unable to keep working, stop for a moment and spray them with lubricant (WD40). They’ll work a treat again, be effective and easy to use. This is a picture of the Holy Spirit in us. Stop regularly and let Him loosen us ready to keep effectively doing His good works….
I thank God from the beginning of creation he has given us an example on how and why to rest.
